Mary DeBross

Mary R. DeBross, age 65, of Chambersburg, PA and formerly of Smethport, PA, passed away on Thursday morning, May 14, 2015 at her home. Born July 18, 1949, she was a daughter of the late Thomas J. and Nellie McElwee O’Brien.

A 1967 graduate of Smethport High School, Mary first worked for Kodak in Bradford, PA. She then worked for Sears in Chambersburg and then as a store manager at Bavarian Pretzel in the Chambersburg Mall until her retirement in 1995. Mary was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Smethport, PA, Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Chambersburg, PA and the Smethport American Legion. Mary enjoyed playing Bingo, the slot machines, visiting her family and friends in Smethport, and going on vacation with her family.

She is survived by her husband of 44 years, John DeBross, whom she married on June 20, 1970; two sons, Shawn P. DeBross (Billie Jo) and Timothy J. DeBross both of Chambersburg; two grandchildren, Shawn P. DeBross, Jr., and Lindsy DeBross, both of Chambersburg; three siblings, Peg Burdick (late Richard) and Mick O’Brien (Cathy), both of Smethport, PA and David O’Brien (Sherry) of Chambersburg, PA. In addition to her parents, Mary is preceded in death by a sister, Kathleen O’Brien.

A memorial service to honor Mary’s life will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, May 18, 2015 in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Deacon Richard Ramsey will officiate. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at 1:00 PM, in St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Smethport, PA, where Rev. Vincent P. Cieslewicz, Jr. will officiate.
