Mary Irene (Dean) Fulton of Menno Haven, Chambersburg, PA, passed away on November 30, 2015. She was born in Clarksburg, West Virginia on August 11, 1931, the daughter of Bunnell and Hazel Dean. She was raised in Lewis County, WV, graduated in 1949 from Weston High School (now Lewis County High School), and in 1952 graduated as a Registered Nurse from Union Protestant Hospital (now United Hospital) in Clarksburg, WV.
She nursed for over 50 years in her chosen and beloved profession in several hospitals around the country, retiring from the Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, VA. In 1955 she married Arthur B. Fulton while nursing and attending the University of Pittsburgh where he was a first year law student. Upon his retirement from the FBI they became longtime residents on Apple Pie Ridge outside of Winchester before relocating to the Menno Haven retirement community in Chambersburg, PA. Mary was of the Methodist faith all of her life.
Mary is survived by her husband of Chambersburg; one son, Arthur Dean and wife Deborah; and three grandchildren: Laura Ann, Amy Elizabeth Goddard and husband Joshiah, and Arthur Nathan, all of Greencastle, PA. She is survived by three sisters: Florida Waugh of Ambridge, PA; Alma Jean Heckert and husband Gerald of Buckhannon, WV; and Elsie Metz of Weston, WV. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Betty Dean and brother-in-law James Wilson, both of Weston, WV. From her husband’s family she is survived by a brother-in-law Rev. Dr. Byron Tate Fulton and wife Ginger of Washington, PA; a sister-in-law Patricia Matthews Fulton of Sewickley, PA, the widow of her deceased brother-in-law Rev. Robert S. Fulton; plus numerous nieces and nephews on both sides of her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Geneva Singleton and Betty Wilson; and a brother, Roy Dean.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, December 4, 2015 at the Omps Funeral Home South Chapel, Winchester, VA. The family will receive friends from 9:30 AM until the service begins at 11:00 AM. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park, Front Royal Pike, Winchester, VA.
