Mary Hollar

Mary Hancock Hollar, age 100, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away unexpectedly in the Chambersburg Hospital on January 24, 2013. Born January 23, 1913 in Shippensburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late David W. and Cora M. Coffey Hancock.

Mrs. Hollar was co-owner and operator along with her late husband, David M. Hollar of the former Hollar’s Grocery and Meat Market on South Main St. in Chambersburg for 25 years, retiring in 1977. She was a member of King Street United Brethren Church, where she had been a member since 1956 and a member of the Buds of Promise Sunday School Class. In addition, she was a member of AARP # 1507. She had been a resident of Luther Ridge since 1991. A proud centurion, Mrs. Hollar claimed that hard work is the key to longevity.

The last of her immediate family, she is survived by a nephew, Guy Leslie Clippinger (wife Henrietta) of Dallastown, PA three great nephews, Gerald Leberknight (wife Doris), Guy John Clippinger, and Ronald Kanner (wife Edith) ; and five great nieces, Kay Baughman, Pam Bailey, Sandra Clippinger, Suzanne Gladfelter, and Linda Wile. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Theodore, Charles, and Lowry Hancock and one brother in infancy; three sisters, Helen Hendricks, Esther Clippinger, and Stella Ingram; and a niece, Hazel Leberknight.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at 2:30 PM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA; where Rev. Lester F. Stine will officiate. A private viewing will be held in the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service in Norland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to the Inn at Luther Ridge at the Luther Ridge Retirement Community, 2735 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17202.
