Mary-Jane LeFevre, 97, of Chambersburg, passed away on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at the Shook Home. Born October 3, 1925 in Allentown, PA, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Robert I. and Mabel Buss Giering.
Mary-Jane was a 1944 graduate of Dover High School in Dover, OH. She went on to study at Julliard School of Music in New York City, NY. She was employed at Ludwig Jewelers in Chambersburg and taught voice lessons out of her home for many years. Mary-Jane was a former member of Central Presbyterian Church and St. John’s United Church of Christ, both in Chambersburg, where she served as the Junior Choir director and composed much of the music they sang. She was a member of the Order of the Easter Star Martha Custis Chapter #342, a former member of the board of Directors at the Shook Home, and past president of both the Chambersburg Community Concert Association and the Chambersburg Afternoon Club, which she enjoyed immensely. Mary-Jane was a talented musician, and artist. She enjoyed painting, cooking, knitting and crocheting. She taught many people the art of Crochet-Tatting. She was an accomplished seamstress and made the draperies in her home as well as many of her own clothes.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Ferree LeFevre, whom she married on August 2, 1958; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Aside from her parents, Mary-Jane was preceded in death by her brother John Giering.
A memorial service for Mary-Jane will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 1811 Lincoln Way E., Chambersburg, PA, 17202. Rev. Caroline Saxton will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Coyle Free Library 102 N. Main St. Chambersburg, PA 17201. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA.
