Mary E. Knepper, 95, of Menno Haven, formerly of Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA, died on Thursday, January 1, 2015 in the nursing home. Born May 13, 1919 in Franklin County, PA, she was a daughter of the late Daniel Emmert and Anna Susan Lesher Stouffer. She and her husband, Lewis A. Knepper were married on May 16, 1940 and Mr. Knepper preceded her in death on October 28, 2006.
A homemaker most of her life, she had been employed at the former Stanley Company in Chambersburg prior to marriage. She was a member of New Guilford Brethren in Christ Church where she was active with the Women’s Sewing Auxiliary and other activities at the church. She volunteered for more than twenty years at the former Piney Mountain Home. Mrs. Knepper loved to sew and enjoyed doing alterations and mending for others while residing at Menno Haven.
She is survived by four children, Darrel R. and wife Peggy Knepper of Mont Alto, Marlene K. Lebo and husband Earl of Mechanicsburg, Joanne M. (Stoner) Morrette and husband Clair, Doreen K. Rice and husband Fred, all of Chambersburg; eleven grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ralph Stouffer, and Rev. Paul Stouffer; and two sisters, Ruth Hawbaker and Faye Heckman. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Joy Stoner; a son-in-law, Dr. Jesse Stoner; six brothers; and one sister.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 7, 2015 in the New Guilford Brethren in Christ Church, 1575 Mt. Alto Road, Chambersburg, PA with Rev. Lawton Jacobs officiating. Private interment, prior to the service, will be in New Guilford Cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the service on Wednesday at the church.
