Mary Elizabeth Bear Leedy, 95, of Virginia Beach, VA and formerly of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Sunday evening, January 19, 2014 at Kindred Nursing and Rehabilitation in Virginia Beach. Born July 5, 1918 in Chambersburg, she was a daughter of the late S. Blaine and Emma F. Derflinger Bear. Mrs. Leedy was a 1936 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School and went on to graduate from the Harrisburg Beauty School. She was employed for many years as a beautician at Cy’s Beauty Shop in Chambersburg and later retired from Dottie’s Beauty Shop in Chambersburg where she had worked for a short time prior to retiring. She was a member of the Chambersburg Church of the Brethren (Fourth Street) where she sang with the church choir for many years. Her husband, Raymond “Bun” Leedy, preceded her in death on August 6, 1994.
She is survived by her son, Joseph Bear Leedy and his wife Nancy of Virginia Beach, VA; five grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Nellie F. Karper; and a brother, S.H. Carl Bear.
A Memorial Service will be held at 6:30 PM Saturday, February 22, 2014 at The Brethren Fellowship, 339 Lincoln Way East, Chambersburg, PA with Rev. Manny Diaz officiating. Friends will be received immediately following the service. Private interment will be at Parklawns Memorial Gardens.
