Mary Elizabeth Mackey, 96, of Chambersburg, passed away Sunday, February 28, 2021 at The Shook Home. Born January 1, 1925 in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late David Walter and Mabel Henry Frey. Mrs. Mackey was a 1943 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School. She was the former owner/manager of the Credit Bureau of Greater Chambersburg and Mackey Dairy Equipment. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church where she served as a Lay Leader; Sunday School Teacher; and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was a former member of the Chambersburg Business and Professional Women; the Chambersburg Hospital Auxiliary; and volunteered with Habitat for Humanity. Her husband, John F. Mackey, Jr., whom she married August 23, 1947, preceded her in death on July 17, 1974.
She is survived by six children, Gretchen Mackey, Brian Mackey, Nina Himes (Gary), Daryl Mackey (Diane), and Lisa Etter (Emery), all of Chambersburg, and Lucinda Peiffer (Bruce) of Downers Grove, IL; thirteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and four step-great grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters-in-laws, Bertha (late James Leslie) Frey of Chambersburg and Helen (late David) Frey of Florida. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Daryl John Mackey; and three brothers, Russell, David, and James Leslie Frey.
A public visitation will be held from 6:00-9:00 PM Friday, March 5, 2021 at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Services and interment in Lincoln Cemetery will be private.
