Mary Mentzer, 94, a guest at Thornwald Home in Carlisle, passed away Tuesday evening, January 31, 2012 at the nursing home. Born July 12, 1917 in Chambersburg, she was a daughter of the late Jacob R. and Loretta V. Nye Cormany. Mrs. Mentzer had been employed as a seamstress at the former Stanley Company in Chambersburg. She attended St. James United Brethren Church. Mary was a participant in the Jolly 60’s Sunday School Class. Her husband, Rev. Fred Mentzer, preceded her in death on September 20, 1979.
She is survived by three children, Rev. Robert L. Mentzer and wife Judith of Chambersburg, Barbara A. Ickes and husband Harold, Sr. of Carlisle, and Martha K. Stake of Carlisle; seven grandchildren, Harold L. Ickes, Jr., Holly C. Divert and husband Steven, Kandi S. Fickes and husband Terry, Scott R. Mentzer and wife Stacy, Lisa K. Baer and husband Kenneth, Brett A. Ickes and wife Amy, and Laura M. Garner and husband Rodney; and ten great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Cormany.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:30 PM Friday, February 3, 2012 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Murray Stevens will officiate. Interment will follow at Salem Cemetery, Chambersburg. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.
