Mary Newman

Mary Irene Newman, 90, of Chambersburg, PA and formerly of Centerline, MI, passed away Saturday morning, May 7, 2016 at The Shook Home. Born March 28, 1926 in St. Thomas, she was a daughter of the late Roy and Mary Musselman Rotz. A homemaker most of her life, Mrs. Newman was an Avon representative for more than twenty years. During her time with Avon she received numerous sales awards but more importantly she enjoyed interacting with her customers who then became her friends. She was a former long-time active member of the Peace United Methodist Church in East Detroit, MI and most recently a member of Mt. Pleasant United Brethren Church near Chambersburg. Family was the focus of her life and she devoted much love and support to her husband, children, grandchildren and their families. Her beloved husband, Harold A. Newman, whom she married August 6, 1943, preceded her in death on October 13, 2009

She is survived by four children, Roy F. Newman and wife Doris of Chambersburg, Roger J. Newman and wife Dianne of Manton, MI, Karin D. Miller and husband Rev. Dennis of Ft. Wayne, IN, and Shireen K. Schmidt and husband Rick of Frederick, MD; nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Anna Dentler, Mabel Gearhart, and Agnes Shatzer; and a brother, Clarence Rotz.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM Thursday, May 12, 2016 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Pastor Craig Mickey will officiate. Interment will follow in Norland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 PM Wednesday and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
