Mary Ommert

Mary Elizabeth Ommert, 81, of Chambersburg, left this earth to be with the Lord on Friday, January 27, 2012 in the Chambersburg Hospital. Born on November 7, 1930 in Waynesboro, PA, she was a daughter of the late Reuben J. Ricker and Mabel Shockey Ricker.
Mary was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fayetteville for more than 52 years. Among her many occupations, Mary had worked as a seamstress/presser at the Stanley Company, an aide at a nursing home in Fayetteville, surgery assistant at the Chambersburg Hospital, waitress at Vivian’s restaurant in Fayetteville, and store manager at Long John Silvers in Chambersburg. Mary’s enchanting smile and sense of humor will be missed by family and her numerous friends and acquaintances. Today heaven is a more blessed place, because it now has one of our most beloved.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 63 years, John M. Ommert, whom she married on September 3, 1948; four children, Dennis R. Ommert of South Mountain, Donald E. Ommert of Mercersburg, Deborah A. Smith (husband Larry W.) of Frederick, MD, and Sharon L. Bennett of Fayetteville; one brother, John Ricker of Arizona; 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Allan, 4 sisters, and a brother.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at 1 PM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Rev. Eloise M. Shanley will officiate with the assistance of Rev. David Heefner. Interment will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 44 East Main St., Fayetteville, PA 17222.
