Mary Arlene (Barnes) Sharar, 89, of Chambersburg, passed away on Wednesday, August 22, 2018. Born December 10, 1928 in Upton, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Elva Kuhn Barnes.
Arlene was a 1947 graduate of the former Lemasters High School. She was the owner/operator of the Tastee Freeze in Mercersburg for 15 years and was later employed at High Greens Sewing Factory for 10 years. Arlene was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chambersburg. She enjoyed cooking for her family, boating and fishing. Her family was her life and she enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Joseph I. Sharar, whom she married on January 19, 1951; three daughters, Sherry A. Pittman (husband Garry) of Staunton, VA, Linda R. Sharar of Chambersburg, and Jodie A. Laughlin (fiancé Brad Friese) of Mercersburg; three grandchildren, Samantha Shaw (husband Duane) of Staunton, VA, Kandie Mattox (husband Chris) of Staunton, VA, and Cody Laughlin of Myrtle Beach, SC; four great grandsons; three great-great granddaughters; and two siblings, Helen J. Barnes and Paul Barnes both of Chambersburg. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a grandson, Ryan Joseph Laughlin.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 AM on Monday, August 27, 2018, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 431 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg, PA 17201. The Rev. Sharon F. Kelly, PhD. will officiate. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
