Mary Elizabeth Shively, age 97, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Monday, July 13, 2015, at Penn Hall Nursing Home. Born in South Hill, VA, on July 26, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Roland L. and Hattie Hines Copley.
Mrs. Shively was a graduate of Highland Springs High School and Richmond Business College. She was a homemaker most of her adult life, taking great pride in her beautiful home and gardens. An avid golfer and traveler, Mrs. Shively was a member of the Chambersburg Country Club, and The 200 Club. She and her husband traveled the world playing golf in the 200 club. She played 81 of the 100 top rated courses by Golf Digest in her lifetime. She had three holes-in-one to her credit. Mrs. Shively was also a member of the First United Methodist Church, Chambersburg Hospital Auxiliary and the board of the Coyle Free Library, where she was also a volunteer for both organizations.
Surviving is her son, Michael G. Shively of Chambersburg, PA (companion Cindy Coldsmith and son, Eric Coldsmith of Shippensburg, PA) and two grandsons, Christopher Michael Shively (Fiancé Haley Wojahn) and Nicholas Richard Shively (Fiancé Meghan Cameron) all of Alexandria, VA and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Shively was preceded in death by her husband I. Glenn Shively in 2001, her son, Dr. Gerald B. Shively, four sisters, and one brother.
Funeral services will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to the First United Methodist Church, 225 South Second St., Chambersburg, PA 17201.
