MARY E. SPENCER
Mary E. Spencer of Chambersburg passed away at 5:55 p.m. on Thursday, January 23, 2014, in The Chambersburg Hospital. She was 95.
She was born December 15, 1918, to Harry and Anna Newton Zullinger. She spent her childhood years on a farm on the Letterkenny Road.
Mary was a 1937 graduate of Chambersburg High School. Following high school, Mary was graduated from Washington County School of Nursing in Hagerstown, Maryland.
Early in her life Mary was a nurse at the Chambersburg Hospital. She especially enjoyed her private duty patients. Later she worked part time for the Franklin County Visiting Nurse Program and was a substitute school nurse for the Chambersburg Area School District. She was also a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Chambersburg Hospital.
Mary was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church for over 70 years. She was a member of the Loyalty Sunday School Class. She helped make Easter eggs for the church for over 12 years.
Mary was one of the early members of the Norland Garden Club. She was also a member of the Franklin County Chapters of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She enjoyed gardening, needlecrafts, cooking and watching the Food Network. She was an avid reader.
Her husband, Robert E. Spencer, whom she married August 31, 1941, passed away on June 11, 2000. They were married 59 years.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her identical twin sister, Arlene Zullinger Kramer, who passed away November 8, 2003. She was also preceded in death by two older brothers, Gerald Zullinger and Paul Zullinger.
She is survived by a son, Rodney N. Spencer, and his wife, Elaine, of Shippensburg.
She is also survived by a daughter, Patricia L. Morris, and her husband, Robert of Chambersburg.
In addition, she is also survived by a granddaughter, Meredith (Mindy) Andros and her husband, Mark, of Frederick, Maryland, and two great granddaughters, Olivia Andros and Sophia Andros also of Frederick.

Mary is also survived by two nieces and two nephews. Cynthia Keller and husband Rick of Chambersburg; Sandy McCleary and husband, Huber, of Chambersburg; The Reverend Ronald W. Mateer and his wife Saun of Martinsville, Virginia; and Robert Zullinger and wife, Linda, of Chambersburg.
Over the years, Mary and her husband shared their home with many rescue cats. For the last 3 1 / 2 years she resided with her beloved cat, Rusty.
Burial and a memorial service will be private and at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA.
In lieu of flowers, her family suggests that anyone wishing to make a memorial contribution in her name to please consider St. Paul United Methodist Church, 750 Norland Avenue, Chambersburg; or the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter, 5051 Letterkenny Road West, Chambersburg, PA 17201; or a charity of the donor’s choice.
