Mary Van Horn

Mary A. Piper Van Horn, 85, of Chambersburg, passed away on Friday, March 17, 2023 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born March 6, 1938 in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Truman W. Piper and Dessie I. Mayhugh Piper. Her beloved husband, John T. Van Horn, whom she married on January 27, 1973, preceded her in death in 2022.

Mary was a graduate of Greencastle High School. She was employed as a secretary at the Stanley Company, Mico Corporation, Value City and lastly at her late husband’s construction business. She was a member of West Side Brethren In Christ Church and the VFW Post 1599 Auxiliary. Mary enjoyed playing golf, bowling, playing cards and board games, attending dirt track races, as well as shopping on QVC.

She is survived by two step-daughters, Maraschina Cordell of Falling Waters, WV and Trina Lehman and husband Gary of Chambersburg; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Carl Piper of Greencastle; and several nieces and nephews. Aside from her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, William, Donald, and Earl Piper; and two sisters, Alma Martin and Nancy Rife.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Pastor W. David Kent will officiate. The family will receive friends from 9:00 – 11:00 AM on Wednesday at the funeral home.
