Max Joseph Sempowski, 86, of Boonsboro, MD, passed away on Friday, September 1, 2023 in the Chambersburg Hospital. Born July 10, 1937 in Muskegon, MI, he was a son of the late Henry Z. and Frances Jackson Sempowski.
Max was employed in sales in the water treatment industry for many years ultimately retiring from Sloan, Inc. He was most recently employed as a Real Estate Agent with Old House Properties in Charlotte County,VA. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Boonsboro, MD and formerly a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Meherrin, VA where he served as an Extraordinary Minister. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, Lions Club, the Charlotte County, VA Historical Society, and served as a volunteer at Patrick Henry’s Red Hill, also in Charlotte County. Max was a problem solver and was capable of giving great advice to friends and family over the years. He enjoyed dreaming up projects for his children to do at their homes and also his own. Max received a certification in historic preservation through Bucks County Community College. He loved historic preservation and through his work in real estate and his volunteer efforts, strived to protect our American heritage. He loved singing, fishing, and especially golf.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Carol Jean Lamble Sempowski, whom he married on April 23, 1960; seven children, David Sempowski (Donna) of Warrington, Thomas Sempowski (Theresa) of Greencastle, Dr. Timothy Sempowski (Kristina) of Chambersburg, Carol Marie Vanden Berg (Chris) of Lancaster, John Sempowski, Sr., of Greencastle, Sarah Mulcahy (Michael) of Perkasie, and Jesse Sempowski (Erin) of Perkasie; 19 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and four siblings, John Thomas Sempowski (Martha) of NY, James Sempowski of TX, Mary Sharon Sempowski of MI, and Mary Jane Zetting (Karl) of MI. Aside from his parents, Max was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, Terrance and Larry Sempowski.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 320 Philadelphia Avenue, Chambersburg, PA 17201. Fr. Allan Wolfe will celebrate. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 AM on Saturday at the church.
