Maxine O. Barthalow Rotz, 88, of Chambersburg, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2022 at Menno Haven with her loving family by her side. She was born November 18, 1933, daughter of the late Clyde and Modena Shaffer Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband Wilson C. “Bill” Barthalow on April 8, 1994.
Maxine worked at the former Stanley Company for 16 years and Tracey Fashions for 15 years, both in Chambersburg. She retired from Sears & Roebuck in 1992. She was a member of the King Street United Brethren Church, and a member of its Buds of Promise Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the WIBC Bowling Association. Her hobbies include bowling, hunting, fishing, crocheting, reading, sewing and watching football. She also enjoyed caring for elderly people and helping others. Maxine loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by two children, Donald R. McClure, Jr. and wife Kathy of McConnellsburg, PA, and Penny Lehman and husband Eldon of Chambersburg; two grandchildren, Courtney Cox and husband Jesse of McConnellsburg, and Nick McClure of Harrisburg; and two great grandchildren, Vivian and Reed Cox. In addition to her parents and husband, Maxine was preceded in death by seven brothers, Clyde Jr., Leroy, Boyd, John, William, Donald and Harry; and three sisters, Dorothy, Catherine and Gladys.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 Am on Tuesday, March 1, 2022 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Ronald Cook will officiate. Interment will follow the service in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Monday, February 28, 2022 and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
