Maxine S. Strike, 97, of Chambersburg, passed away on Friday, November 20, 2015 at Penn Hall Nursing Center. Born January 8, 1918 in Flemington, WV, she was the daughter of the late Waitman F. Snyder and Inez Wyckoff Snyder. Orphaned shortly after her birth, she was raised by her grandmother, Mardula Wyckoff and her Aunt, Edna Wyckoff. Mrs. Strike was the last member of her immediate family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold Wyckoff; her second husband, Arthur Strike; four sisters; and two brothers. She is survived by three nephews; five nieces; and a number of cousins.
Mrs. Strike was a 1936 graduate of Alderson-Broaddus College in Philippi, WV. As a retired elementary school teacher of 39 years, she taught 12 years in West Virginia, before moving to Pennsylvania where she taught and additional 27 years. Mrs. Strike was active in church work. She was a member of Flemington Methodist Church in Flemington, WV, and a member of Mt. Pleasant United Brethren Church in Chambersburg, PA where she taught adult Bible class for 52 years until she retired from her teaching duties in 2009. Mrs. Strike was active in many community activities including: AARP 2840, Franklin County Toy Mission, F&M Trust GoClub, and PASR.
A funeral service will be held to honor her life at 1:00 PM on Saturday, November 28, 2015 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Garry Culler will officiate. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service. A graveside service will be held in Simpson Cemetery, WV on Sunday, November 29, 2015. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cumberland Valley Breast Care Alliance, 344 Leedy Way East, Chambersburg, PA 17202.
