May E. Barth, 91, of Chambersburg, passed away on Sunday, November 25, 2018, at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born January 8, 1927, in Buffalo, NY, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Alice Caley Eschner.

A 1948 graduate of the Buffalo State Teachers College, May went on to be an elementary school teacher in Buffalo. She then taught secondary school reading in Buckhannon, West Virginia. She also worked as a librarian at West Virginia Wesleyan College, from where she retired in 1977. She was a member of the St. John’s United Church of Christ in Chambersburg. May was an avid bridge player, and enjoyed painting. She was also a hospital volunteer for over 25 years.

May is survived by her husband of 70 years, Richard Barth, whom she married on June 19, 1948; her children, Peter Barth (wife Janet), and Marilyn Cutright (husband David); as well as five grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 22, 2018, in the Chapel of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA, where Rev. Caroline Saxton will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. John’s United Church of Christ, 1811 Lincoln Way East, Chambersburg, PA 17202, or to Menno Haven, 1425 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg, PA 17201.
