Melvin E. Davis, 89, of Clear Spring, MD and formerly of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Friday, November 18, 2022 at Charlotte’s Home Assisted Living, Maugansville, MD. Born April 13, 1933 in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Bruce and Rachel (Webber) Davis.
He was a graduate of Chambersburg High School with the Class of 1951. Melvin served with the United States Army during the Korean War from 1953 until his honorable discharge in 1955. He then went to work at Letterkenny Army Depot until 1970. Melvin worked for the IRS for fifteen years until his retirement in 1986. He later worked several years with Valley Bank.
He was a member of St. James United Brethren Church, Chambersburg, the Elks Club, Chambersburg and the American Legion Post 223, Shippensburg, PA. Melvin was an avid Penn State University Football fan and a Baltimore Orioles fan.
He is survived by two children, Melodie J. Davis (Mark Perry) of Clear Spring, MD and Michael E. Davis (Valerie) of Montgomery, NY; one granddaughter, Courtney Forsyth (Clinton Burleson) of Clear Spring, MD; a great granddaughter, Allison; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mollie Sue Davis; eight siblings, George, Charles, Terry, Joe, Donnie, Jane, Clara, and an infant sister Nora; and grandson-in-law, Christopher Forsyth.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, November 25, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Salem Lutheran Cemetery, Marion, PA with Pastor Lester Stine officiating. Military honors will be conducted by members of the Charles Nitterhouse, Post 1599 VFW. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA.
