Mervin Richardson

Mervin L. Richardson, 81, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2020 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born October 29, 1938 in Chambersburg, he was a son of the late Granville R. and Pearl (Jones) Richardson.

A proud United States Marine, Mervin honorably served his country for 22 years, during the Vietnam War. He followed his military service working at Letterkenny Army Depot in HVAC for 21 years. Mervin was a member of the John Wesley AME Zion Church in Chambersburg for a number of years, where he volunteered in different roles. He was a member of the Charles M. Nitterhouse, Post 1599 VFW and the Hume McNeal Byers AmVets, Post 224, both in Chambersburg. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, driving his truck, and watching westerns. He absolutely loved being with people, always smiling, laughing and having a good time. He treasured the time he spent with his grandchildren.

Mervin is survived by his wife, Evadney F. (Rideout) Richardson, whom he married on February 4, 1989; his daughter, Carlenda J. Owens, of Chambersburg; step-daughters, Pastor Rosanna Johnson, of Chambersburg, DeMaris McManus, (Randy), of FL, Toni Caldwell, of NJ, and Stephanie Hipkins (Rich), of Chambersburg; grandchildren, Jessica, Christopher, Caleb, Destiny, Selena, and Elijah, numerous great-grandchildren; and his brothers, Blaine Richardson (Clara) and George Richardson (Cynthia), both of Baltimore; and numerous other grandchildren and nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth W. Richardson, and siblings Warren, Ben, Carlene, June, and an infant sibling.

Interment, under the direction of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg, PA, will be private. A memorial service will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hume McNeil Byers AmVets Post 224 750 5th Ave, Chambersburg, PA 17201 or to John Wesley A.M.E. Church 155 W Catherine St, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
