Michael Agostinelli

February 22, 1931 — April 10, 2013

Michael Francis Agostinelli, 82, of Chambersburg, passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 in the Chambersburg Hospital. Born on February 22, 1931 on a mushroom farm in Avondale, PA, he was a son of the late Paul Agostinelli and Josephine Indelicato Agostinelli. He is survived by his wife, G. Marie Stevens Agostinelli, whom he married on January 30, 1999, and his sister-in-law, Marie LaTorre Agostinelli, 10 nieces and nephews, and a number of great nieces and nephews. The last of his immediate family, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, John and Paul, a sister, Angela, and 2 nieces.

A veteran of the U.S. National Guard, Mike’s first jobs, starting at age 9, included shining shoes at Hurley’s Department Store in Camden, NJ, and making pizza at one of the first drive-in theatres in New Jersey. He also worked as a chef in an Italian Restaurant for 13 ½ years, was employed by RCA in New Jersey, and the Orange County (CA) Medical Center, all before beginning his 49-year career as a cement mason. He enjoyed watching wrestling and NCIS on television, and he was a big Animal Planet fan. He loved to do word search puzzles and could often be found metal detecting or attending flea markets and yard sales. Some of his favorite times were those spent sitting on patio with Marie and their pet cat, “Rosemary.” He was devoted to supporting the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter and he was a member of the National AARP and the local Chapter 2287.

A memorial service will be held at 3 PM on Monday, April 15, 2013 in the chapel of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, with visitation from 2-3 PM. Rev. Paul B. Baker will preside. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter, 5051 Letterkenny Road West Chambersburg, PA 17201, or by visiting www.cvas-pets.org.
