Michael K. Hennessy, 67, of Wilson Avenue, Chambersburg, passed away on Monday, July 5, 2021 in his home. Born on October 7, 1953 in Chambersburg, he was a son of the late James J. Hennessy Jr. and Mary Barbara Selman Hennessy.
Mike was a lifelong resident of Chambersburg and a proud Eagle Scout. A 1972 graduate of St. Francis Prep School, he then graduated from the University of Dayton in 1976 and furthered his education at Harvard Business School completing the OPM Executive Program in 1989. He held memberships at the Chambersburg Club, Elks Club #600, VFW Post 1599, American Legion Post 46, and BOPiC, and was a former member of the Chambersburg Country Club.
For 25 years Mike worked at and later became President of the family business, Hennessy Products, Inc., which was founded by his grandfather in 1921 to manufacture products for the railroad industry before transitioning into the telecommunications industry in the early 1980s. Mike was innovative and demonstrated his true love of manufacturing by striving to make products better, faster, and more efficiently than the competition. If someone told Mike it couldn’t be done, Mike was determined to make it happen.
Mike is survived by his wife, Brenda Woolfenden Hennessy; daughter Meghan Mihal (Gregory); step-daughter, Carly Karlsson; two granddaughters, Reagan and Morgan Mihal; and siblings, Kathleen Granger (Mark), Barbara Ritchey (Bruce), and Patrick Hennessy. Mike treasured his many friends—both old and new—and found happiness in traveling, golfing, and cooking. Mike’s smile, laughter, and quick wit will be missed by his family and friends.
The family will receive friends for a visitation beginning at 3:00 PM concluding with a memorial service at 4:00 PM on Saturday July 10th, 2021 at the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to SpiriTrust Lutheran Office of Philanthropy, 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, York, PA 17404.
