Michael A. “Mike” Jacobs, 77, of Chambersburg, passed away on October 6, 2018, in his home, with his wife by his side. Born December 1, 1940, he was a son of the late George B. and Ellen Stepler Jacobs.
Mike was a 1958 graduate of the Chambersburg Area Senior High School, where he played for the Trojans baseball team. In his earlier years, he worked for the Heinz Company in Chambersburg, and later as a pressman at James River, where he worked for 32 years, retiring in 1998. Mike was a caddy at local courses at a young age, where he developed a love for the game of golf, which stuck with him, and he even belonged to the Thursday Golf Group traveling golf team. He also had a talent for betting on horse races. Some would call him an aficionado, attending the Preakness many times and also the Belmont Stakes. In his earlier years, he enjoyed hunting with his brothers and his son. Mike was an avid Notre Dame Fighting Irish Football fan. He was a member of the Hume McNeal Byers AmVets Post 224 and the Marine Corps, both in Chambersburg. He enjoyed travelling with his wife to Delaware and Charleston, South Carolina, and he loved spending time with his family. Some of his favorite memories would be when he and his wife, Mary, would host their summer family reunions.
Mike is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Mary M. Costello Jacobs, whom he married on December 1, 1962; his children Erin Michele Jacobs, of Chambersburg, and Shawn Michael Jacobs and wife Sharon, of Greenvillage; four grandchildren, Benjamin Michael and Zachary Paul Wengert of Charleston, South Carolina, Danielle Michele Jacobs of Dover, PA, and Caitlyn Nicole Jacobs of Chambersburg, PA; and brothers Robert H. and wife Connie of Chambersburg, Peter W. and wife Connie, of Orlando, FL, and Thomas R. and wife Deb of Chambersburg; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and his four-legged grand-pups. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, George B. Jacobs, Jr.
A celebration of life service will be held in Mike’s honor at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Arrangements are entrusted to Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA.
