Michael R. Peshkin, 65, of Chambersburg, passed away on Monday morning, June 29, 2015 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born October 7, 1949 in Long Island, NY, he was a son of the late Sol and Rosamond Greenberg Peshkin.
A 1967 graduate of Gateway High School in Monroeville, PA, Michael then attended Kent State University, San Diego State University and earned his bachelor’s degree in education from Wilson College. Michael worked as a substitute teacher at Tuscarora School District. He also worked in sales, as a chef at Shoenberger’s Restaurant in Chambersburg, and at Flohr Pools. Michael enjoyed hiking and listening to music. He was also an avid audiophile and record collector accruing over 10,000 record albums in his collection. He and his family organized and hosted “Ribfest”; an annual rib and music festival at their home for the past 15 years drawing people from all across the country. Michael impacted many people with his knowledge of music and stereo equipment.
Michael is survived by his wife of 41 years, Barbara Strickler Peshkin, whom he married on June 23, 1974; two sons, Ryan Nathaniel Peshkin of Chambersburg, David Alex Peshkin (fiancé Leah Renee Summers) of McConnellsburg; two grandchildren, Karen Ann Peshkin and Bradley Michael Peshkin, both of St. Thomas, PA; and his sister Toby Taylor (husband Gary) of Chambersburg.
A memorial service to honor Michael’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Pamela Nelson will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
