Michael Raymond Spangler, age 62, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at his home. Born September 9, 1953, in Hanover, PA, he was the son of Everett Raymond Spangler and the late Judy L. Brown Spangler.
A 1971 graduate of Southwestern High School in Hanover, PA, Mike went on to Shippensburg University, where he graduated in 1976, and completed the Air Force ROTC program. He served in the U.S. Air Force honorably for 13 years. Mike went on to work for the Government, retiring as a Logistics Specialist at Letterkenny Army Depot in 2015 after 40 years of total government service. Mike was a member of Zion Reformed Church, UCC, Chambersburg, the Waynesboro Fish and Game Club, and the Moose Lodge 842 in Chambersburg, PA. An avid outdoorsman, Mike enjoyed hunting, water skiing, fishing, and crabbing. He also enjoyed being part of the Bell Choir at St. John’s UCC and he loved spending time with his beloved cat, Higgins.
In addition to his father, Mike is survived by his wife, Kathy Martin Spangler, whom he married on September 1, 2012; his step-mother, Cindy; two step-children, Anthony Shahmoradi of Chambersburg, PA and Heideh Shahmoradi of Bowie, MD; three step-grandchildren, Hannah and Lillian Shahmoradi and Corey Holley; a sister, Jody Boardman (husband Jamie) of Chambersburg, PA; one step-brother, Randy Zeger (wife Catherine) of Vienna, VA and a step-sister, Ronda Ranalli (husband Bob) of Chambersburg, PA; a nephew, Luke Boardman; and a niece, Meredith Boardman.
A memorial service will be held in his honor on Monday, July 11, 2016, at 10 AM at the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA, where Rev. Jeffrey Diller will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Inurnment will be private at Marburg Memorial Gardens, Hanover, PA at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mike’s name to Zion Reformed Church, UCC, 259 South Main Street, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
