Miriam Horst

Miriam Amanda Horst, age 86, of Chambersburg, PA; passed away; on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at Menno Haven Nursing Home in Chambersburg. Born March 25, 1926 in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late David B. and Fannie Martin Frey.
An LPN, Mrs. Horst worked as a nurse until she married in 1961, where she began helping her husband grow and expand their family business, Horst Garage Door Company. Mrs. Horst enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing, playing the harmonica, and singing. In addition, she enjoyed volunteering in disaster situations alongside her husband.
Surviving is her husband of 51 years, Melvin H. Horst, whom she married on April 29, 1961; her children, Sharon M. Martin of Chambersburg and Stephen Horst of Hustontown, PA; nine grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and five siblings, Lista Martin, Catherine Martin, Beulah Shank, Lois Martin, and Preston Frey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Irvin and Adin Frey.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the Chambersburg Mennonite Church, 1800 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg, PA 17201; where Chaplain Vernon Isner and Pastors Jere Horst and Jerry Roth will officiate. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM and one hour prior to the service at the church and address above. Interment will follow the service in the Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in her name to the above church.
