Myra Turchetta

February 3, 1929 — October 9, 2022

Myra J. “Jean” Turchetta, 93, of Chambersburg, and formerly of Altoona, passed away on Sunday, October 9, at The Village at Luther Ridge. Born on February 3, 1929 in Altoona, she was a daughter of the late George and Miriam Charles Emerick. She was the widow of Arthur Charles Turchetta, who passed away on October 6, 1973.

Jean was retired from Blair Medical Associates in Altoona, and she was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Chambersburg.

She is survived by two daughters, Kelle (John) Massimilla and Diane Turchetta (Sue- her partner); three grandchildren, Kristin (Aaron) Burke, Sara (Wade) Koser, and Brian (Paige) Massimilla; and six great grandchildren, Carter, Sutton, Olivia, Nathaniel, Landon and Grayson, all of Chambersburg. She was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Heuston, and three brothers, James Emerick, and George and Robert Williams.

Jean entered the workforce after being widowed at a young age and was both mother and father to her two young daughters. She endured many health challenges over the years, but always kept a positive attitude and fantastic sense of humor.

Affectionately known as “Granny” by all who met her, not just her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had an infectious laugh that could be heard a mile away. Always quick with a sassy remark or opinion.

She loved wings, Coors Light, Steelers football, her cats, playing cards with friends, all things SWEET and her family. Nothing lit up her face like her great grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by family and friends.

A service to celebrate Jean’s life will be held Friday, November 4 at 11:00am at Stevens Mortuary, 1421 8th Avenue, Altoona, PA. Friends will be received starting one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to SpiriTrust Lutheran Hospice Office of Philanthropy,1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, York, PA 17404; or to the American Cancer Society by calling 800-237-2345 or visiting www.cancer.org.
