Myrl Crawford

Myrl A. (Sonny) Crawford, 84, of Chambersburg, passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at Menno Haven Rehabilitation Center. Born April 9, 1939 in Hanover, PA, he was a son of the late Myrl R. and Tillie Mae Alban Crawford.

Myrl was a 1957 graduate of Eichelberger Senior High School in Hanover. A U.S. Army veteran, he served honorably in Germany from 1959-61 and an additional three years in the Reserves. Throughout his long professional career, he was employed with Acme Markets and then Handy Markets as a Regional Manager, eventually retiring from Uni-Mart. A member of New Guilford Brethren In Christ Church and a lifetime member of the Mercersburg Sportsman’s Association, Myrl enjoyed hunting and fishing, woodworking, drawing and painting, and devoting his attention to his family, especially his 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Elizabeth M. Speirs Crawford, whom he married on September 27, 1964; three children, Ronald Crawford (Tess) of Carlisle, Barrie Crawford (Kristine) of Chambersburg, and Anita Crawford of Chambersburg; ten grandchildren, Rachel Gray (Jesse), Rebekah Evans (Andrew), Hannah Bingham (Adeem), Caleb Crawford, Faith Crawford, Jonathan Crawford, Benjamin Crawford, Samuel Crawford, Owen Crawford, and Mandalyn Crawford; four great grandchildren, Jael Gray, Judah Gray, Isley Bingham, and Amelia Evans and one sister, Vivian Fuhrman of Hanover. Aside from his parents, Myrl was preceded in death by his daughter, Karen Crawford; and four siblings, Raymond Crawford, Richard Crawford, Dorothy Allison, and Laverne Crawford.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at New Guilford Brethren In Christ Church, 1575 Mont Alto Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Rev. Lawton Jacobs will officiate. Interment will follow the service in the New Guilford Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:30-11:30 AM prior to the service on Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Myrl’s name may be made to New Guilford Brethren in Christ Deacons Funds or any nonprofit organization of your choice.
