Myrtle G. Schaefer

Myrtle “Gerry” Schaefer, 95, of Chambersburg, PA passed away Wednesday, November 27, 2024 in her home surrounded by her family. Born August 27, 1929 in Aleppo, PA she was the daughter of the late John Milton Ross and Leatha Mae Hartley Courtwright.

Gerry was primarily a homemaker and moved often while her husband served in the military. Later in life she worked as the manager of the camera and jewelry departments for K-Mart, Chambersburg. Gerry was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church and a life member of the VFW Post 1599 Chambersburg. She was an avid reader and enjoyed bowling, sewing, and crocheting. She made many doilies, afghans, quilts, and dolls throughout her lifetime. 

She is survived by two children, Debra G. Schaefer and Richard “Michael” Schaefer (Leah Viens) both of Chambersburg; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren and one on the way; a sister, Betty Marshall of Alliance, OH; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Clemence W. “Bill” Schaefer who passed away July 10, 1988; a son, Kevin W. Schaefer; and seven siblings, James, Sadie, Virginia, Guy, Donald, Mack and Sue Ann.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 1:00 PM, Friday, December 6, 2024 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 320 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg, with Fr. Benjamin Kwaghgba as celebrant. Burial will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg, PA. Arrangements are by Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg. 

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Friday afternoon in the new church narthex.
