Nancy E. Gardner, 82, of Chambersburg, passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2023 at her home. Born May 11, 1940 in New York City, she was the daughter of the late Willis F. and Marie Williams. Her beloved husband of 57 years, William J. Gardner, preceded her in death on January 5, 2021. They were married on June 15, 1963.
Mrs. Gardner was a 1962 graduate of Penn State University, where she served as president of Kappa Delta Sorority, and Elections Committee Chairman. She was a member of Scrolls Honorary Hat Society and was the 1962 Cap Girl, an honor bestowed by the staff of the Daily Collegian.
Nancy was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Chambersburg. She served for over 20 years as president of the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter and was named to the Governor’s Pennsylvania Dog Law Advisory Board in 1996. She was also a member of Chapter AG of PEO International Women’s Sorority, and a member of the Chambersburg Afternoon Club.
Mrs. Gardner is survived by three daughters, Rebecca A. (Joseph) Shafron of PA, Dana M. (Christopher) Goodrow of San Diego, CA, and Rachel M. (Michael) Renshaw of Langhorne, PA; four grandchildren, Joseph E. Shafron, William J. (Autumn) Shafron, Olivia E. Shafron, and Sean M. Renshaw; one sister, Mary Fitzpatrick of Levittown, PA; and two brothers, Rev. Richard Williams of Philadelphia and Willis F. Williams, Jr. of Lebanon, NJ. Aside from her parents and husband, Nancy was preceded in death by her sister, Elisabeth Gerace.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 20, 2023 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 320 Philadelphia Avenue, Chambersburg, PA 17201. Fr. Allan Wolfe will celebrate. Interment will follow the service at Corpus Christi Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter, 5051 Letterkenny Road W., Chambersburg, PA 17201.
