Nancy J. Redington, 79, of Chambersburg, passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at her home. Born January 15, 1944 in Wilmette, IL, she was a daughter of the late Frederick C. Justice, and Cecilia Julia Wagner Justice. Joseph G. Redington, her beloved husband of 48 years, whom she married on September 23, 1967, preceded her in death on July 20, 2016.
Nancy was a 1961 graduate of the former Marywood Seminary in Scranton, PA. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in biology from Marywood College, now Marywood University, also in Scranton. She was employed as a Medical Cytotechnologist with Fulton County Medical Center and most recently at the Chambersburg Hospital. She was a member of Our Lady of Visitation Catholic Church in Shippensburg. An accomplished gardener, Nancy was a graduate of Franklin County’s first class of Penn State Master Gardeners and became a licensed Pennsylvania Nurseryman while working at Snavely’s Garden Corner. She was passionate about rose gardening and also enjoyed growing daffodils and dahlias. She participated in competitive horticulture with the Tuscarora Daffodil Society and the Chambersburg Garden Club. As a member of the American Rose Society, she held several leadership positions and mentored many in the art of growing, showing, and arranging roses. Nancy was the owner/operator of Redington Ceramics Studio for over 20 years. She also enjoyed basketry and quilting. Nancy was an advocate for caring for those with disabilities and served on the board of Franklin-Fulton County MHMR for several years.
She is survived by three sons, Joseph P. Redington of Kingston, PA, Michael T. Redington of Chambersburg, and James R. Redington (Kelly) of Culpeper, VA; two grandsons, Patrick J. and John E. Redington; and two brothers, Robert Justice (Debbie) of Dallas, PA and Thomas Justice (Sue) of Philadelphia, PA. Aside from her parents and husband, Nancy was preceded in death by two siblings, Susan Justice Van Overberghe, and Frederick C. Justice, Jr.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 16, 2023 at our Lady of Visitation Catholic Church, 305 N. Prince St., Shippensburg, PA 17257. Rev. Ben Dunkelberger will celebrate. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 3:00 PM and 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Sunday, October 15, 2023 at the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202, and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to Our Lady of the Visitation Catholic Church.
