Nathan E. Horst, 98, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Sunday evening, March 26, 2023 at his home. Born May 15, 1924 in Clear Spring, MD, he was a son of the late Michael and Florence Eby Horst. Mr. Horst was a dairy farmer all of his life. He loved bowling and was a member of the Franklin County District Bowling Association and bowled with the Thursday Night Men’s League. He bowled a 300 at the age of 81 and was a member of the Franklin County Bowling Hall of Fame. He also enjoyed family gatherings as well as ice cream at the Milky Way in Ft. Loudon. Mr. and Mrs. Horst were members of the Ft. Loudon Pentecostal Church.
He is survived by his wife, Savilla Musselman Horst whom he married on December 21, 1946; six children, William Horst and wife Nancy of Chambersburg, Gary Horst of Chambersburg, Darlene McCurdy and husband Donald of Shippensburg, Donald Horst of Chambersburg, Donna Meyers of St. Thomas, and Charles Horst and wife Jackie of Chambersburg; nine grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters, Amanda, Florence, Anna, Lula, and Naomi; three brothers, Reuben, Enos, and Abram; and his son-in-law, Edgar Meyers.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, April 1, 2023 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Karl Herman will officiate. Interment will follow at Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Friday and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
