Nelle Nelling

Nelle D. Nelling, age 86, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away unexpectedly at home on Sunday, December 17, 2017. Born April 29, 1931, she was the daughter of Edith Burtsfield Hill Depuy and Raymond W. Hill, and step-daughter of Chauncey M. Depuy.
Mrs. Nelling was a 1948 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School and a 1952 graduate of Wilson College. She was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church where she had served as financial secretary, the Chambersburg Garden Club and the Franklin County Historical Society. She also worked as a “Kids on the Block” puppeteer for Easter Seals.
Surviving are four children, Rebecca Adelmann (husband Peter) Biglerville, PA, Margaret Schmidt (husband F. Jeffery) of Gardners, PA, Sally Herritt (husband S. Eugene) of Shippensburg, PA, and Raymond W. Nelling (wife Janelle Mack) of Penn Laird, VA, eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William A. Nelling, a daughter, Alice Heaps, and a brother and a sister.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 29, 2017, at 2 PM at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 43 W. Washington St., Chambersburg, PA 17201, with Pastor Jane Nicholson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. A private interment will be held in Norland Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the above church and address or to the Menno Haven Benevolent Fund, c/o Gift Planning Services, 2011 Scotland Ave., Chambersburg, PA 17201 or to the charity of one’s choice.
