Nellie M. Hale, 90, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away unexpectedly Thursday afternoon, January 24, 2019 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born November 12, 1928 in Mifflintown, she was a daughter of the late John and Olive McCain Yetter. She was a graduate of the Juniata Joint High School. Mrs. Hale and her late husband founded Chambersburg Optical in 1973 and she continued to operate the business until her retirement. She was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chambersburg where she was active with the quilting group. Mrs. Hale enjoyed crocheting and puzzles. Her husband, Richard D. Hale, preceded her in death.
She is survived by her son, Robert D. Hale and wife Jenny of Chambersburg; two step grandchildren, Dean Mentzer and wife Rachel of Hagerstown, MD and Angie Piper and husband Allan of St. Thomas, PA; 3 step great-grandchildren, Brent, Kelsi, and Ashley; her sister Helen Woods of Mechanicsburg; and her brother James Yetter of Mifflintown. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Paul Yetter.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, January 31, 2019 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Jane Nicholson will officiate. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 1, 2019 at Westminster Presbyterian Cemetery in Mifflintown. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
