Nelly D. Musto, 93, of Chambersburg, passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2024 at Menno Haven Brookview. Born on June 14, 1930 in Lima, Peru, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Octavia Zueirola Duenas. She married Louis E. Musto on February 22, 1980. He preceded her in death on June 14, 2019.
Nell's hobbies included making lots and lots of teddy bears and knitting all the fancy, unique sweaters they wore. She then donated them to the local EMS department to be given to children in distressful times. Nell loved her cat, Honey, which became a source of companionship to her after Louis passed away. Honey now is loved by a family in Chambersburg.
In her professional life she was an Executive Secretary for a major shipping company in Peru, and later she became a secretary/ interpreter for Hughes Airlines, were she met Louis. They were married in 1980 in Spain. They lived in Lima, Peru for 10 years where they ran a successful gift shop. Returning to the US, they lived in Delaware and then Pennsylvania, where they retired and traveled extensively. They chose Menno Haven to stay and live out their later years. Nell is beloved by her family and friends for her wit, intelligence and giving nature.
Nelly is survived by her stepdaughter, Jaqueline C. Musto (and husband, Charlie) of Canyon Lake, TX; four step grandchildren, Jason Musto of Manassas, VA, Maxwell Musto of Richmond, VA, Dane Musto of College Station, TX and Andrew Stapleton of Round Rock, TX; and one great step granddaughter, Sophia Musto. Aside from her husband, Nelly was also preceded in death by three brothers and her stepson, Steven.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 15, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church 320 Philadelphia Avenue Chambersburg. The Rev. Fr. Allan Wolfe will officiate. A private interment will be held in Ulysses Cemetery, Potter County, PA.
