Noah Burkholder

Noah A. Burkholder, 91, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Sunday, May 5, 2013 at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born September 18, 1921 in Chambersburg, he was a son of the late Abram I. and Carrie Hostetter Burkholder. Early in his life, Mr. Burkholder was employed at the former Walker Brothers Feed in Chambersburg. He married his wife, Bertha Flohr Burkholder on June 22, 1946 and they soon thereafter began farming. Mr. Burkholder was injured in a farming accident in 1948 and while no longer able to operate his farm went on to work at Wenger’s Bakery and then as a Radio Operator and Gravel Inspector with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. He later retired from E.D. Plummer and Sons. Mr. Burkholder was a member of the Fourth Street Church of the Brethren where he served for many years with the Deacon ministry. He had at one time been an active member of the Orrstown Lions Club and his hobbies included hunting, and attending Baltimore Orioles baseball games.

In addition to his wife, Bertha, he is survived by two sons, Lee R. (husband of Darlene “Ritchey”) Burkholder of Chambersburg and Dean (husband of Carol “Shafer”) Burkholder of Shippensburg; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The last of his immediate family he was preceded in death by two sisters, two brothers, and a granddaughter, Jenny Golden, on December 2, 2011.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, May 9, 2013 at Fourth Street Church of the Brethren with Rev. Daniel House officiating. Interment will follow at Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Wednesday at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, and from Noon-1:00 PM Thursday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund at Fourth Street Church of the Brethren, 260 South Fourth Street or to Meals on Wheels, 43 West Washington Street, both in Chambersburg, PA 17201.
