Norman Peters

Norman E. Peters, 83, of Chambersburg, passed away on Monday, April 10, 2017 at Chambersburg Hospital. Born February 27, 1934 in Chambersburg, PA he was a son of the late Delbert and Elizabeth Connor Peters.

Norman was a 1952 graduate of Fleetwood High School in Fleetwood, PA. He then earned his Bachelor’s Degree in education from Shippensburg University in 1956. Norman was a U.S. Navy Pilot Veteran. He was employed as a teacher at Shippensburg High School for six years then later at Haddon Heights, NJ for 27 years until his retirement in 1992.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Janet L. (McCleary) Peters, whom he married on December 23, 1956; two daughters, Karen Schmoyer (husband Scott) of Newark, DE and Michele Peters (fiancé Rob Matthes) of St. Petersburg, FL; five grandchildren, Shana, Gretchen and Kyle Schmoyer, and Andrew Gibson (wife Kayleigh) and Kevin Gibson; one great-granddaughter, Aubrey Gibson; and his brother, Chet Peters (wife Marsha) of Hanover, PA.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Parklawns Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are entrusted to Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 150 Monument Road, Suite 100, Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004.
