Patricia Kochenour

March 17, 1924 — August 4, 2017

Patricia Bower Kochenour, age 93, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away unexpectedly at the Chambersburg Hospital on Friday, August 4, 2017. Born March 17, 1924, in Martinsburg, WV, and moved to Stoufferstown with her family at a young age. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Alda Marotte Bower.
A 1942 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School, Mrs. Kochenour went on to earn her Bachelor of Education Degree from the former Shippensburg State Teacher’s College in 1946 and her Master of Education Degree from Teacher’s College, Columbia University. Mrs. Kochenour taught at both Scotland School for Veterans Children and Fannett Metal High School, and served as Field Director for Penn Laurel Girl Scout Council. Mrs. Kochenour was a member and Past Matron of First Court Chapter #470, and Martha Custis Chapter #342, Order of the Eastern Star; Past Worthy High Priestess and Past Watchman of Shepherds, Samaria Shrine #43, Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem; member and past President of A.A.U.W; chairman of the board and telephone volunteer of Contact Chambersburg; Troop Leader, Neighborhood Chair, and Board Member of Penn Laurel Girl Scout Council; and a Member, Deacon, Elder, and Clerk of Session of The Presbyterian Church of the Falling Spring, where she taught Sunday School for several years and also sang in the choir for many years. Mrs. Kochenour was in receipt of an honorary life membership in Presbyterian Women and a Thanks Badge and Appreciation Pin from Girl Scouts U.S.A. Her hobbies included: cooking & trying new recipes, playing, coaching, and refereeing field hockey and women’s basketball, reading, crossword puzzles, being outdoors, watching wildlife at the cabin in Potter County, and cheering for the Baltimore Orioles and Washington Capitals.
Surviving is her daughter, Susan K. Mummert (husband David) of Chambersburg, PA, a sister, Margaret Boag of Vienna, VA, a niece, and 3 nephews. In addition to her parents, and husband, Dr. Robert W. Kochenour, she was preceded in death by a sister, Hilda Saunders.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, August 11, 2017 at 10 AM in Lincoln Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at 11:30 AM at the Presbyterian Church of the Falling Spring, 221 North Main St., Chambersburg, PA 17201, where Rev. Dr. Andy Hart will officiate. The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 10, 2017 from 6 – 9 PM in the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA; where Martha Custis Chapter #342 Order of the Eastern Star will conduct a service at 8 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the above church and address for the Memorial Garden Project or to Menno Haven Life Enrichment Fund, 2011 Scotland Ave., Chambersburg, PA 17201 or to the Rhonda Brake Shreiner Women’s Center “Bonnie Boxes” Program, 12 St. Paul Dr., Chambersburg, PA 17201.
