Patricia Shover

August 29, 1942 — August 21, 2015

Patricia Ann Shover, beloved sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend passed away on Friday, August 21, 2015.

Pat was born August 29, 1942, in Stoufferstown, PA to Harry and Phyllis (Gossard) Davis who predecease her. She often shared stories of an idyllic childhood with her siblings, cousins and neighborhood friends. Pat graduated from Chambersburg High School class of 1960. She maintained lifelong friendships with many of her classmates. We heard more than once from Mom’s classmates who visited during her illness that Class of 1960 is the best to ever graduate from Chambersburg.

Pat married the love of her life, Ronald Shover, in December of 1960 and within a year they started their family that would eventually include 3 daughters and 9 grandchildren. Dad told us that it was the luckiest day in his life when Mom married him. Pat and Ron raised their family at their home on Echo Drive in Guilford Township. That neighborhood provided us with our own idyllic childhood memories, including neighborhood picnics, kickball games, giant snowmen and Kick the Can. Pat and Ron have remained friends with so many of those neighbors.

For more than 25 years, Pat enjoyed the Saturdays she spent with Ron cheering on the Penn State Nittany Lions at Beaver Stadium. It was inevitable that her three daughters would become Penn State Alumni, 2 of whom married Penn State Alumni, and would currently have four grandchildren attending Penn State.
Pat worked as a lab assistant for Dr. Ronald Toothman for many years. She took so much pride in her work. Upon retiring she spent many years as a volunteer at Chambersburg Hospital. She loved the work and the people she worked with at the hospital. We could never take her to one of her many appointments at the hospital without running into someone she knew or worked with and had to stop and let her catch up on the gossip.

Pat fought three battles with breast cancer that spanned 20 years. No one fought harder to beat cancer than she did. We are in awe of her courage. In the end cancer did not win, she did! She never complained and never gave up hope.

Pat is survived by her three siblings, Nancy Dymond, Harry “Denny” (Robin) Davis and Tannie (Dave) Mickey; three daughters Bobbi (John) Rosenberger, Trudy (Todd) Stonesifer and Dannelle (Steve) Gerhart; and nine grandchildren (in birth order) Andrew Rosenberger, Drew and Nick Stonesifer, Sara Gerhart, Matthew Rosenberger, Sam Stonesifer, Eva and Danny Gerhart, and Anna Stonesifer. There has never been a prouder Grandma! She loved nothing more than to spend her summer evenings at a ballfield watching her grandkids play ball. Pat is also survived by many beloved cousins, aunts and uncles and a niece and nephew.
We would like to thank Dr. Robinson of Summit Cancer Services for his care for Mom during her last battle and for keeping her hopeful for so long and Drs. Swartz and Kent for their care. We would especially like to thank the home care and hospice nurses and aides, who are truly angels among us. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to SpiriTrust Lutheran Home Care & Hospice, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17202, The American Cancer Society Franklin/Fulton Unit, 924 N. Colonial Avenue, York, PA 17403 or the charity of your choice.

A celebration of her life will be at 11:30 AM on Saturday, August 29th on what would have been her 73rd birthday at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Rev. Paul B. Baker will officiate. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends from 10:30-11:30 at the funeral home Saturday.
