Patrick V. “Pat” Loyd, Sr., 84, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at SpiriTrust Lutheran, The Village at Luther Ridge. Born February 6, 1938, in Des Moines, IA, he was the son of the late F. Glennon and E. Jean Myers Loyd. His beloved wife, Peggy A. Brooks Loyd, preceded him in death on September 3, 2017.
Pat worked most of his life as an inventor in the medical field. Probably his most significant invention, of which he led the patent for 17 years, was the first non-electric powered breast pump. This gave new mothers the opportunity to have more freedom at home and in the workplace. He also had the original idea of how to make universally formed potato chips, which became Pringles Potato Chips. Pat was accepting of all people and viewed everyone as equals. He had a very generous nature about him and often offered his time and talents to people in need. Pat had a love of cars and car racing. He met his wife Peggy while driving road rallys through Washington D.C. with the Volvo Club. He enjoyed wearing camo clothing and was an avid “weather watcher”. Pat had a fondness and respect for the local German Baptists and had many friends within that community.
He is survived by three children, Patrick Loyd, Jr. of Ashburn, VA, Paul Loyd (wife Naomi) of Bethesda, MD, and Peggy Anne McAloon (husband Mike) of Leonardtown, MD; and four grandchildren; R.J. Loyd, Joseph and Julie McAloon, and Benjamin Loyd.
A memorial visitation will be held from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Pat’s name to a charity of one’s choice.
