Paul Crider

Paul N. Crider, age 90, of Chambersburg, PA passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 in the Falling spring nursing and Rehab Center. Born July 26, 1922 in Chambersburg, PA, he was the son of the late Cyrus and Cora Leininger Crider.
A U.S. Army-Air Corps veteran, Mr. Crider served honorably during WWII, where he was a gunner in the 99th Bomb Group. On his 34th mission he was shot down and captured by the Germans in February of 1944 and held as a POW until April of 1945, when he was liberated by the US Army and discharged on September 26, 1945, and started his career as a computer operator at Letterkenny Army Depot, where he was employed for 32 years, and retired in 1978. Mr. Crider was a member of the Salem United Brethren Church. He enjoyed going to church, hunting, raising chickens, reading the bible and spending time with family, especially grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are two daughters, Doris J. O’Donnell (husband Harry “Ted”) of Chambersburg, PA and Beverly A. Whitsel of Chambersburg, PA; two grandchildren, Lisa A. Tacker (husband Bret) of St. Thomas, PA and Shaun P. O’Donnell of Chambersburg, PA; two great-grandchildren, Austin and Cody Tacker; and three siblings, Mabel Lockwood of Chambersburg, PA, Naomi Mull (husband Jack) of Chambersburg, PA, and Charles Crider (wife Goldie) of Orrstown, PA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margie A. Hardsock Crider in 1993 and six siblings, John and Glenn Crider and Dorothy Bittinger, Elsie Fahnestock, Olive Sollenberger, and Mary Davis.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 15, 2013 at 11 AM in the Salem United Brethren Church, 4349 Letterkenny Rd., Chambersburg, PA; where Rev. Art Page will officiate. The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 14, 2013 from 6-8 PM in the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA and on Monday at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service with military honors provided by the Charles Nitterhouse, Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard at Parklawns Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter, 5051 Letterkenny Rd., Chambersburg, Pa 17201.
