Paul E. Cullinane (Sr.), age 86, died suddenly of complications from heart failure, on Tuesday evening, November 22, 2011, at the Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg, PA. He was born on December 29, 1924 in Randolph, MA, the son of the late Edward G. Cullinane and Julia M. (Valentinelli) Cullinane. Paul was formerly from Mission Hill in Roxbury, MA, Humarock, MA, Melbourne and Vero Beach, FL before settling in Chambersburg in 2008. He dedicated his life to his family. His personal example simply was hard work; helping family and neighbors whenever needed.
He attended Mission High School, Roxbury, MA, and was retired from the Railroad, as a Signal Maintainer and Administrator, Back Bay rail yard in Boston, MA, with 33 years of service to the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad, and its successors: Penn Central, Amtrak, and the Conrail Lines.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary (Colby) Cullinane; three brothers, Edmund F. of Randolph, MA, William J. (husband of Velma Concannon) of Roxbury, MA, and Robert G. (husband of the late Jean Flynn) of Jamaica Plain, MA; and one sister, Virginia M. “Ginny” (Christians), (wife of Clarence “Sonny” Christians) of San Antonio, TX.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Jean M. (Tilden), Chambersburg, PA; three children: Paul E. Cullinane, Jr. (wife Priscilla) of Chambersburg, Mary C. Phalan (husband Kenneth) of West Roxbury, MA, and John J. Cullinane (wife Karen Shryock) of Doswell, VA; seven grandchildren: Paul E. Cullinane, III of Denver, CO, Cynthia Newman (husband Andrew) of Chambersburg, PA, Joseph Cullinane of Chambersburg, PA, Brendan Phalan of Astoria, NY, Katie O’Hare (husband Ryan) of Canton, MA, Heather Phalan of Eastham, MA, and Michael Phalan of West Roxbury, MA; and two Great Grandchildren: Agatha Newman, Chambersburg, PA, and Emma O’Hare, Canton, MA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The Reverend James R. O’Brien will celebrate a Memorial Mass on Saturday, November 26, 2011 at 11:30 a.m. at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 320 Philadelphia Avenue, Chambersburg, PA 17201. Interment will be at the convenience of the family at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, West Roxbury, MA. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society for the needy, Corpus Christi Church, 320 Philadelphia Avenue, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
