Paul P. Helfrich, 95, of Chambersburg, passed away on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at Chambers Pointe. Born May 21, 1928 in Wilkes Barre, PA, he was the son of the late John and Mabel Miller Helfrich.
Paul served honorably in the US Navy and US Air Force from 1946 until his retirement from the armed services as a Chief Warrant Officer 3 in 1966. He was a World War II era, Korean Era and Vietnam War veteran. Paul was employed as an Air Traffic Controller, first with the FAA in Leesburg, VA, and lastly with Middletown Airport, currently Harrisburg International Airport. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Chambersburg. Paul and his wife enjoyed camping in their motorhome spending winters in Florida and traveling to Alaska, Nova Scotia and all over the US.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Lois E. MacAvoy Helfrich, whom he married on June 7, 1950; four children, Deborah Miller (husband Wayne) of Sumerduck, VA, Paul Helfrich (wife Barbara) of Greeneville, TN, David Helfrich (wife Linda) of Lewisberry, PA, and Steven Helfrich (wife Jennifer) of TX; ten grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren. Aside from his parents, Paul was preceded in death by four siblings Jack, Florence, Patricia and Joan.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 15, 2023 in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Rev. Patricia Dickson will officiate. Military honors will be provided by the VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard. Interment will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:00 – 11:00 AM on Thursday at the funeral home.
