Paul Shaffer

Paul E. Shaffer, 81, of Chambersburg, PA, died Thursday morning, March 28, 2013 at Chambersburg Hospital. Born February 9, 1933 in Chambersburg, he was a son of the late Max and Hazel Hartman Shaffer. Paul was self-employed, most of his life, as an over the road truck driver. In his early years he drove a coal truck, delivering coal in downtown Chambersburg to the former Rosedale Theater and the Old Jail, among other places. He played for the Chambersburg Cardinals from 1948-1953 and was a life member of the Chambersburg Club, Marion Volunteer Fire Company, Fayetteville Volunteer Fire Department, New Franklin Fire Department, and the Franklin Fire Company.

He is survived by his wife, Joan M. Wingerd Shaffer, whom he married June 28, 1952; three children, Michael Shaffer and wife Marty of St. Thomas, Carin Shaffer of Hagerstown, and Steven Shaffer of Shippensburg; three grandchildren, Michael Shaffer, Jr., Cortney Shaffer, and Megan Shaffer; two great-grandchildren, Michael Shaffer, III and Kristina Shaffer; two step-grandchildren, Todd Walls and wife Michelle and Arnold Walls and wife Diane; and six step-great-grandchildren, Brandon, Alyssa, Justin, Hunter, Katherine, and Chase. He is also survived by two brothers, Welty Shaffer and Glen Shaffer and wife Betty; and a sister, Shirley Shaffer, all of Chambersburg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jeffery Alan Shaffer on December 4, 1971; a granddaughter, Christy Shaffer on February 4, 1988; and two sisters, Edna Armstrong and Betty Osler.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, April 2, 2013 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Rev. Paul B. Baker officiating. Interment will follow at Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Monday and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
