Paul Yaukey

Paul B. Yaukey, 88, of Fayetteville, PA, passed away Thursday evening, January 26, 2017 at Providence Place in Chambersburg. Born July 17, 1928 in Chambersburg, he was a son of the late Roy A.Yaukey and Margaret G. Bricker Berlin. He was raised by his grandparents, “Mom and Pop”, Mary and Harry Bricker. Paul was a 1946 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School and served with the US Marine Corps during WWII. Upon his return from military duty he was employed at Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg. He was then employed by the US Postal Service at the Chambersburg Post Office, retiring in 1983. He was a charter and life member of the Landis McCleaf Deatchment of the Marine Corps League in Chambersburg where he served as Commandant for two years and as treasurer of the Home Association for fourteen years. He was also a member of Burt J. Asper Post 46 American Legion in Chambersburg. He enjoyed fishing; was a Civil War history buff; and liked spending time watching old movies. His wife, Helen A. Ridgley Yaukey, whom he married October 15, 1948, preceded him in death on November 7, 2007.

He is survived by three children, Candice Wagner and husband Robert of Chambersburg, Karen Sleighter and husband Robert, Jr. of Fayetteville, and Darrell Yaukey of Wilkes-Barre; six grandchildren, Craig Wagner and wife Jenelle of Greencastle, Alicia Bender and husband Michael of Jacksonville, FL, Dr. Rachel Sleighter and husband Sean Little of Norfolk, VA, Ronnie and Steven Yaukey of Pittsburgh, and Justin Yaukey of Kansas; and four great-grandchildren, Riley, Jordyn, and Charlotte Wagner, and Danae Cartwright. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Dennis A. Yaukey in 1957 and his brother, Harry E. Yaukey.


A memorial service to celebrate Paul’s life will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, February 1, 2017 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Jeffrey R. Diller will officiate. Interment with military honors by members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard will follow at Lincoln Cemetery. The family will receive friends from Noon-1:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.

The family requests the omission of flowers and suggests memorial contributions in his memory be made to the Landis McCleaf Marine Corps League Scholarship Fund, 450 Grant Street, Chambersburg, PA 17201, SpiriTrust Lutheran Home Care and Hospice, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17202, or to Zion Reformed United Church of Christ, 259 South Main Street, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
