Paul Zychal

Paul J. Zychal, 79, of Chambersburg, PA, died Sunday morning, November 13, 2011 at Chambersburg Hospital. Born January 1, 1932 in Clark’s Summit, PA, he was a son of the late Joseph F. and Agnes Wiglowski Zychal. Paul graduated from high school in Clark’s Summit in 1950 and served in the US Air Force as a radar technician with the Strategic Air Command from 1950 – 1954. Following his discharge from the military he was employed in sales for ten years prior to entering the federal government’s Logistics Intern Training School at Red River Army Depot in Texas in 1966. He was then employed at a number of military bases throughout the United States as part of the US Army Material Command, retiring from LSSA at Letterkenny Army Depot where he was employed as a systems analyst with twenty-six years of federal service. Paul was a member of First United Methodist Church and Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW, both in Chambersburg. He enjoyed spending time restoring sports cars and was an avid reader of civil war history.

He is survived by his loving wife, Evelyn Roberts Zychal, whom he married July 28, 1960; four children, Karen D. Anderson and husband Michael J. of Seattle, WA, Jennifer L. Bumbaugh and husband Christopher L. of Waynesboro, PA, Paul J. Zychal, II of Lebanon, TN, and Daniel V. Zychal and wife Joann of Fayetteville, PA; and seven grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Erik J. Zychal on June 22, 1971; two brothers; and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, November 17, 2011 in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Dianne B. Salter will officiate. Interment with military honors by member of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard will follow at Parklawns Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
