Peggy L. Brookens, age 81, of Fayetteville, PA, passed away on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at her home with her family by her side. Born February 23, 1934, in Fayetteville, she was the daughter of the late Reed A. and Margaret Noll Neff.
A 1952 graduate of the former Chambersburg High School, Peggy went on to be a full time Mom, wife and homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, shopping, and most of all spending time with her family.
Surviving are six children, Tony E. Brookens (wife Phyllis) of Hedgesville, WV; Joy D. Cook (fiancé Gary Stone) of Chambersburg, PA; Brenda Brookens (fiancé Roger Wingert) of Chambersburg, PA; Pamela Strickler (husband Greg) of Shippensburg, PA; Elaine Harris (husband Marvin) of Tobaccoville, NC; and Cindy Shatzley (husband Travis) of Falling Waters, WV, eleven grandchildren, Tony L. and Jessica Brookens, Tonya Brookens, James and Troy Cook, Shawn and Michelle McClure, Yancey and Layne Strickler, Casey Shatzley, and Brooke Harris; eleven great-grandchildren; and five siblings, Ruth Gary of Sabillasville, MD, Esther Smith of Greencastle, PA, Delores Shover of Fayetteville, PA, Kenny Neff of Fayetteville, PA, and Ron Neff of Hampton, VA. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Brookens in 2002 and two siblings, Betty Mills and Vicki Musser.
Funeral services will be held in her honor on Monday, February 22, 2016, at 1 PM in the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Rd., Chambersburg, PA; where Pastor Kenneth Brookens will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will follow the service in Lincoln Cemetery.
