Peter Sheruda, 93 of Waynesboro, PA and formerly of Aston, Pa. passed away November 30, 2022 in the Chambersburg Hospital.
He was born in Dickson City, PA in 1929, and was one of 12 siblings. He resided in Blakely, PA until his enlistment in the United States Army and the Pennsylvania State Police. He served in the US Army from 1949 to 1951 with service as a combat medic assigned to the 21st regiment of the 24th Infantry Division during the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge he served with the PA State Police from October 1, 1953 until his retirement December 30, 1981. While with the State Police, he was stationed in Delaware County for approximately 25 years and served as a Driver’s License Examiner, Patrol Officer and Supervisor, Crime Investigator and Supervisor, and Staff Service Supervisor. He honorably retired with the rank of Sergeant in 1981.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Pioneer Lodge #37 and the Indian River Water Sports Association, Riverdale, DE. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 46, Chambersburg, PA. Peter received much joy spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing and other salt water activities with his grandchildren and friends. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed taking his grandson with him.
He is survived by his daughter, Diane (Sheruda) Weaver and her husband Kerry of Waynesboro, PA; three grandchildren and their spouses; Allison (Weaver) Grove of Ringgold, MD, Andrew Weaver of Rouzerville, PA, and Matthew Weaver of Smithsburg, MD; and a great-grandson, Sawyer of Ringgold, MD. In addition to his parents and siblings he is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth (Soapchalk) Sheruda who passed away August 31, 2020.
Services will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, December 7, 2022 in Trinity Episcopal Church, 58 S 2nd St., Chambersburg, PA 17201 with The Rev. Patricia Dickson officiating. Burial will follow at Lincoln Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the honor guard of the Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599, along with members of the State Police.
Arrangements are by the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends from 10:30 AM until 11:00 AM Wednesday morning in the church. Service begins at 11:00 AM.
