Phyllis Ruth Hackney, 71, of Chambersburg, passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2017, at her home with her beloved family by her side. Born August, 5, 1945, in Columbus, OH, she was the daughter of the late Ruth Henderson Crago.
Phyllis was a 1964 graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Columbus OH. She later began her career as a Tupperware sales trainer and retired as a business leader after 42 years of service. She enjoyed traveling, spending time at the beach and tending to her roses. Phyllis was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who touched the hearts of many. We are honored and blessed to have had her in our lives. She will be eternally in our hearts and souls.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Peter D. Hackney, whom she married on January 3, 1972; four children, Thomas Patrick Rains of Germantown, MD, John Lance Rains and wife Jamie L. of Gahanna, OH, Angela Marie Hackney of Fayetteville, and Peter Donald Hackney II and wife Adele of Feasterville, PA; four grandchildren, McKenna A. Rains, Auburn Hackney, Aralyn Hackney and Mary Hackney; and three siblings, John Crago, Guy Crago and Bonnie Porter. In addition to her mother, Phyllis was preceded in death by her sister, Gail Crago.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 AM on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 320 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg, PA 17201. Father Brian Olkowski will celebrate. Interment will follow the service in Corpus Christi Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 PM on Wednesday at the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society of Chambersburg, 320 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg, PA 17201.
