Phyllis Jean Oesterling Koenig of Chambersburg, PA, died on Monday, May 12, 2014, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, she was the daughter of the late Christian James and Alma Elizabeth Oesterling.
A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, Phyllis was a member of Delta Delta Delta National Sorority. Following her education, she worked in public relations at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette newspaper and later taught in elementary schools.
A member of Trinity Lutheran Church, she served on the Service Ministry Committee and was a member of WELCA. Phyllis was a member of the American Association of University Women, board member and volunteer of the Franklin County Literacy Council and volunteer of the Ragged Edge and Grove Family libraries. She was an avid reader and books were always a large part of her life. She was a member of the Chambersburg Afternoon Club, the College Women’s Club, and Questers, an antique study group.
In addition to her beloved husband of 54 years, Robert Mell Koenig, she is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Patricia Schell of Lancaster, PA; Mrs. Judith A. Wylie (Lee) of Castine, ME; Mrs. Kristal Johnson (Paul M.) of Woodstock, GA: Mrs. Kimberly Joan Dawson (Robert) of Richmond, VA; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 16, 2014 at 11 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church, 26 W. Commerce St., Chambersburg, PA, where Rev. Tara L. Magoon will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. A private burial service will be held at Lincoln Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Chambersburg, PA.
